Concert at Square Chapel

Yorkshire's finest wind musicians are back!

The Yorkshire Wind Orchestra return to Halifax to present their afternoon concert of orchestral wind music at Square Chapel at 4pm on Sunday 8th March 2009.

The concert will be a treat for folk song lovers who will not only get the chance to hear Vaughan Williams' well known English Folk Song Suite, a staple ingredient in the wind orchestra repertoire, but will also enjoy Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy, another key figure's interpretation on the folk song idiom. A collection of 6 compositions, Percy's "bunch of Wildflowers" was dedicated to "the old folk singers who sung so sweetly to [him]" on a trip to Lincolnshire in 1905.

The programme will also include works by Joseph Horovitz, Kenneth Hesketh and the colourful and evocative Sun Paints Rainbows on the Vast Waves by David Bedford.

The Yorkshire Wind Orchestra are a registered charity (1057170) that was formed as a direct result of the celebration of the Centenary of the Leeds City Charter in 1993. Musical Director, Keiron Anderson's programme of development has been a major contribution to the current level of excellence and as a result, the orchestra is now recognised as a leader in its musical field.

Many of the orchestra's players are professionally engaged in music; some primarily as performers, others as instrumental teachers in Yorkshire. Students and dedicated amateurs are also valued musicians who make the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra a truly regional ensemble.

Tickets are available direct from The Square Chapel's Box Office on 01422 349 422 or can be bought online from For more information about the Yorkshire Wind Orchestra please visit
